Shosei Hirahata

Chief Priest, Iinumasan Enpukuji, Iinumakannon Enpukuji

Born in Choshi City, Chiba Prefecture. Entered Koyasan Sainan-in Temple in 1983. Studied Shingon Esoteric Buddhism at Koyasan Hōju-in Temple (Senshū Gakuin) in 1986. In 1987, following the instructions of Enpukuji Temple’s chief priest, Shosei Hirahata, he worked for the religious corporation Enpukuji Temple and the school corporation Iinuma Gakuen.
He utilizes the cultural assets and books passed down at the temple, striving daily to spark interest in Choshi’s history and culture, and to convey its charm and the wonders of Choshi to as many people as possible.

1992Transfer of monastic affiliation from Koyasan Shingon Sect
to the Chisan School of Shingon Buddhism, appointed Chief Priest of Toenji Temple, Religious Corporation of the Chisan School of Shingon Buddhism
1995Appointed as Chief Priest of Komyo-in, Myojo-ji,
and Shojo-in, Subordinate Temples of Toenji Temple
1997Resigned as Chief Priest of Enpuku-ji Temple
2014Reappointed as Chief Priest of Enpuku-ji Temple
Organizing the library. He requested Professor Sasaki Takahiro of the Keio Institute of Oriental Classics (Shido Bunko). That same year, with Professor Sasaki’s cooperation, he held the first Temple Treasures Exhibition.
2015He held a temple treasures exhibition twice a year.
