Hiroya Sugimura
Director, Tochigi City Art Museum
After leaving Keio University with MA, he worked at Tochigi Prefectural Museum of Fine Arts as a Curator of painting. He contributed acquisition and curation mainly of British Art ranging from 19th century landscape painting to contemporary artists who work in nature. He was in charged with exhibitions including Sun, Wind and Rain: The Awakening of British Landscape Painting, Andy Goldsworthy: Two Autumns, SHIMZU Toshi, REAL/LIFE: New British Art, KAWASHIMA Riichiro, OSAKABE Jin, Twelve Travels: British Art in Sensibility and Experience. From 2004 to 2023, he lectured history of British Art and Museology at Keio University. He was appointed to Director of Tochigi City Art Museum which was inaugurated in 2022.
