“Enrico Isamu Oyama artist talk” Held

November 04, 2020

An online talk event by artist Enrico Isamu Oyama was held on Wednesday, October 28, 2020. In September 2020, Mr. Oyama created a new artwork “FFIGURATI #314” at the creative studio inside the Keio Museum Commons (KeMCo). The talk event saw a dialogue take place between Keio University Art Center Professor Yohko Watanabe and Mr. Oyama about his artworks and his artistic activities to date.

Mr. Oyama, who is himself a graduate of Keio University, has developed his artistic practice using his unique “Quick Turn Structure” motifs, with his works attracting attention in the field of modern art. He began to practice his art while still a high school student, and works he created at this time on a concrete block wall are preserved today at the Keio Shiki Boys Senior High School where he was a student.

While there were restrictions on the number of participants at the event venue, many people took the opportunity to participate online. At the question and answer session, Mr. Oyama politely fielded each of the various questions put to him, which included those on his perspectives on the display methods for his artworks, the origins of the appellation “Quick Turn Structure,” and the significance of his works using monochrome as their base. A video of the talk is planned to be shared on the KeMCo website at a subsequent date.
